Myofascial Release Self-Treatment Course

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the fascial system and John F. Barnes Myofascial Release
  2. Demonstrate understanding of the connection between physical and psychological stressers
  3. Apply the core principles of MFR self-treatment during gentle stretches
  4. Assess the body alignment and tissue tension to develop a patient specific self-treatment program
  5. Feel comfortable in the ability to vocally guide the patient to release tension
  6. Feel competent in developing a treatment program for common injuries applying the myofascial release techniques to decrease pain and balance the body
  7. *This course is dominantly a hands on lab in which participants will be practicing all of the stretches. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat or towel to lay on, two bath towels, two hand towels, and a pillow. All stretches can be modified if needed to be completed in a chair. If you have a treatment table, please feel free to bring that as well. Full participation is required to receive CEUs for this course.

*This course is designed for the beginner to intermediate level practitioner working in all settings that treat the young adult to geriatric population. This course is an AOTA educational level introductory, Category 1: Domain of OT and 2: Occupational Therapy Process.
