Several of my clients discuss resentment of things they’ve done in the past or things they wish they had done better. Recently, I experienced this same feeling when I had to have a c-section rather than a natural birth. I thought I should have relaxed more, exercised more, done more yoga, etc., etc., etc. It took only an instant for my husband to show me our beautiful daughter and say “Look at her. Could you have done any better?” Then I realized, that
1. There really was no point in beating myself up
2. No, I couldn’t have done anything better. It was exactly as it should have been.
3. Yes, she is perfect, I’m healthy, she’s healthy, and we’re together. That’s all that matters
